How attestation works
The chain every document goes through
Attestation certifies the signatures and seals on a document so the authorities in another country accept it. The steps depend on where it was issued.
Issued abroad, for use in the UAE
- 1Certified where it was issued, for example by a notary.
- 2Attested by that country's ministry of foreign affairs.
- 3Attested by the UAE embassy or consulate in that country.
- 4Attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Issued in the UAE, for use abroad
- 1Certified by the authority that issued it, such as your free zone.
- 2Attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- 3Attested for the country of use, by its embassy in the UAE or by the UAE embassy there, as that country requires.
Arabic or English
The Ministry accepts documents in Arabic or English, or with a legally certified translation.

Which documents do you attest?
Company documents: your UAE company's trade licence, memorandum and articles of association, resolutions, powers of attorney and certificates, and the documents of a foreign company that will be a shareholder in your UAE company.
How much does MOFA attestation of a company document cost?
AED 3,150 per document, VAT included. Each document is attested separately, so three documents are priced as three.
Is an apostille enough for the UAE?
No. The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so a document issued abroad still needs attestation by the issuing country's foreign ministry, the UAE embassy there and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Do my documents need translating?
Only if they are not in Arabic or English. The Ministry accepts a legally certified translation alongside the original.
